Here’s an update on the latest transfer stories surrounding Chelsea as the window comes to a close this week.
First off, there has been reports from Italy suggesting that Roma full back Emerson Palmieri will be unveiled as a Chelsea player today for a fee close to £18 million plus add ons. However, this seems unlikely at current as the negotiations continue for Edin Dzeko, and Chelsea persist on a double deal announcement.
There is as always completely contrasting reports surrounding this, especially regarding Dzeko. Emerson will join Chelsea no matter what, but Dzeko as far as I am aware is yet to agree terms with the blues.
Sky Italy are suggesting that he is asking for a contract until 2021, but Chelsea aren’t willing to meet this, which I believe is the stumbling block at current. If Dzeko is not prepared to drop the length of his contract demands, the deal could end. But the two continue to negotiate today as this one looks set to go to the wire.
So what is plan b? Is there even a plan b? Could Chelsea now be willing to stick with Michy Batshuayi? Well, Di Marzio believes that Roma are exploring the option of taking Batshuayi on loan as part of the deal, due to an injury to their striker Patrik Schick.
There are also talks of Olivier Giroud moving to Chelsea, the player allegedly prefers a move to Chelsea rather than to be included in Arsenal’s deal for Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports in Germany.
Arsenal would be willing to sell Giroud to Chelsea, but only for £35 million, according to the English press. This would surely price Chelsea out of any move for the Frenchman, they’d prefer a loan deal only.
So where next? Well, there are no strong links at current, but my personal opinion is that it may not be long before Chelsea are linked with a move for former Southampton forward Graziano Pelle, who is now playing in China.
West Ham are currently enquiring about his services, but this is the profile of striker that Chelsea appear to be looking at, he is also Italian, knows Antonio Conte well and was also subject of a Chelsea pursuit back in 2016.
The Italian international has an eye for goal and will surely be a cheaper option than Giroud. He is slightly older than Dzeko by a few months meaning any offers from Chelsea would be very much a short-term option. But as I say, a link here would not surprise me in the slightest in the coming days as Chelsea seek to get Dzeko over the line, and attacking reinforcements signed.
Finally, Charly Musonda is set for the last leg of talks with Celtic today, in order to confirm his 18 month loan deal to the current Scottish league leaders.
I’m not against him going to Celtic, I actually think Brendan Rodgers can help develop him and complete his ‘steps’. However I would only ever allow a loan until the summer for now, in my opinion. This could suggest that the rumoured move for Leon Bailey in the summer could have some substance to it.
