Chelsea have missed out on another target as Barcelona defender Sergi Roberto has renewed his contract at Barcelona until 2022.
Chelsea had been linked with Roberto in the summer and was considered a bargain since his release clause was £37.5 million. La Liga requires all players to have a release clause.
Roberto was scouted by Chelsea due to his versatility. The Spaniard can play in midfield and as a right-back.
The 25-year-old Spanish international will not be moving from Camp Nou anytime soon since his contract has a new release clause of €500 million, equating to £441 million.
He looks set to add to his plethora of titles with Barcelona looking strong in all fronts. So far, Roberto has won 4 La Liga titles, two Champions League, 4 Copa Del Rey’s, 4 Spanish Super Cups, 2 UEFA Super Cups and 2 Club World Cups. Last season, Roberto edged into UEFA Champions League history – sealing a historic 6-5 aggregate victory against Paris Saint-Germain, by scoring Barcelona’s sixth goal in injury time.
Chelsea fans will see what Roberto would have brought to the Club with Barcelona facing Chelsea at the Bridge on February 20th.
