Match Preview: Chelsea vs Norwich City

Chelsea host Norwich City in a third round replay of the FA Cup on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge.

The sides met at Carrow Road 11 days ago but the game ended a stalemate as no side could find the goal to send them into the next round of the competition.

The Blues fielded a second string side against the Canaries but the home side held firm and earned a replay in West London.

Team News

Bad news for the home side, both of Chelsea’s attacking midfielders are out of the replay. Cesc Fabregas is out with a slight hamstring injury and he won’t be risked, whilst new signing Ross Barkley is ineligible due to not signing in time for the first cup tie.

Meanwhile Gary Cahill could miss the Norwich clash as he went off early in the first half against Leicester as he picked up a hamstring injury as well.

Daniel Farke has the majority of his squad available, however Tom Trybull is a doubt as he is suffering from a knee injury but there is some more positive news for the visitors.

Marcus Edwards, who is on loan from Tottenham, is ready to play and is in contention for a place in the squad.

Chelsea wouldn’t have wanted this extra game in their already packed schedule but Antonio Conte will look to avoid embarrassment against the Canaries on Wednesday.

The Canaries have just lost Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield and with the squad with a man down of quality, they could struggle against a Blues defence who haven’t conceded in three.

Alex Pritchard completed his switch to Premier League newbies.

But the visitors will have a glimmer of hope, Chelsea haven’t netted in three and haven’t looked like winning so any chance the away side get, they have to take. But with home advantage, nothing other than a Chelsea win, whether that’s in normal time or in extra time, even penalties, is expected.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Norwich City

The winners will face Newcastle United in round four of the FA Cup.
