Heynckes: Vidal will stay in January

Bayern Munich will not sell 30-year-old Chilean midfielder, Arturo Vidal, to Chelsea in January according to manager Jupp Heynckes, reports the Evening Standard.

Vidal has a contract until the summer of 2019 and links to Chelsea became apparent after Conte described the Chilean as a player he would like to ‘go to war’ with. Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Boxing Day, he was highly complimentary of the Chilean international – having worked with him previously from 2011-14 at Juventus.

Speaking to reporters in Qatar, Heynckes was quick to quash any transfer news: Certainly, there’s been no contact between the clubs [Chelsea and Bayern]. It’s just speculation. Arturo Vidal is very motivated, he’s a top player and we need him at his very best if Bayern is to play well. We won’t sell any players in the [transfer] window.

It seems pretty clear that Conte and Chelsea will have to wait for Arturo Vidal until the summer, that is if Conte is still in charge. It is no secret that Chelsea expects to be active in the market – having completed the signing of Ross Barkley on Friday.
