Manchester United are set to beat Chelsea to Napoli left-back Faouzi Ghoulam, after Portuguese media outlet, Record, claim that a deal to take Alejandro Grimaldo to the San Paolo is nearing completion.
Grimaldo’s signing means Ghoulam will be free to depart to Manchester.
Ghoulam was an alternative to potential left wing-back options of Alex Sandro and Alex Telles. Liverpool and Manchester City also showed some interest but it looks like former manager Jose Mourinho, has managed to swoop in and capture the Algerian from under Chelsea’s noses.
Ghoulam, 26, has been out since November after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in the 4-2 home defeat to Manchester City. That has not stopped Mourinho gaining an advantage over domestic rivals and has been given the green light to trigger his €60 million release clause.
