Chelsea will make the short trip across London on Wednesday evening to the Emirates, to face Arsenal in the Premier League as the Blues will look to reclaim second place.
Antonio Conte’s side will be coming into this full of confidence and optimism as they cruised past Stoke City on Saturday lunchtime 5-0, with a whole host of goal scorers. Quick to get out the blocks, Chelsea had a comfortable afternoon ahead of the London derby.
Meanwhile Arsenal are back at home, and their 1-1 draw to West Brom will have certainly angered and rustled a few feathers are a poor refereeing decision, which cost them the game in the final minutes at the Hawthorns.
But with the Gunners’ previous record against the Blues, they will certainly fancy their chances as they remain unbeaten in three games in all competitions against the Premier League champions, including an FA Cup Final win.
Arsenal are suffering from a lengthy injury list ahead of the league tie on Wednesday evening. Arsene Wenger already had Mesut Ozil, Nacho Monreal, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey out prior to the draw to West Brom but the Frenchman confirmed more bad news for the Gunners fans.
Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny picked up injuries at the Hawthorns and Wenger stated that Mesut Ozil and the Arsenal centre-back have a slight chance of making the Chelsea game.
The German will have a late test whilst Koscielny is 30% available for the game.
Better news for Chelsea as Antonio Conte declared the Blues have no fresh injury problems. Charly Musonda and David Luiz remain out but the rest of the squad are available.
Eden Hazard and Andreas Christensen look set to come back into the side after they were fully rested for last weekend’s game.
This fixture brings the best out in Arsenal in recent times, winning two and drawing one, and they will be luring on the side of confident ahead of this game. But the Blues have only lost one game in 14 in all competitions, and with the second best defence in the league, it will be hard to break through the Blues’ defence.
Both sides will hope to get three points for different reasons. Chelsea will climb into a second with a win, and if Arsenal can get a result against the Premier League champions, then they will close the gap to Liverpool in fourth to three points.
Antonio Conte’s record against London-based sides isn’t brilliant but with the injury list Arsenal have, and the way Chelsea have been playing, against Stoke they were scintillating, it will be extremely difficult to not only keep Chelsea out but get past the Blues as well.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea
